Blog: Protest Against Violence In Rio…
Just another normal day in Copacobana featuring dead bodies in trolleys… or people pretending to be. This peaceful but powerful protest held yesterday by a group Cariocas is in response to the violence has kept the north part of the Rio paralysed. As the violence enters it second week, the body count stands at around 40 official deaths so far… This protest was mimicking the grisly find of a freshly tortured corpse found near the entrance of one of the favelas caught in the middle of the continuing turf war. Ten already-incarceratated drug traffickers have been moved to Southern Brazil in an attempt to prevent then plotting war from within their Rio prison cells. Officials are calling this the worst outbreak of violence in Rio so far this year. Looks like its going to be a long summer…Beijos! (Sasha)
