Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
“You might not recognise the name, but unless you live under a gigantic rock the size of Jupiter, you’ve seen George Condo’s artwork (…) He’s responsible for the (subsequently banned) cover art of Kanye’s new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Yeah, that illustration of the strange naked winged creature that’s boning a caricature of a drunken Kanye.
But the Kanye cover art wasn’t exactly what put the New York artist on the map – Condo was mad famous before Kanye probably even knew who he was (…) featuring in galleries since the early ’80s and even had a documentary made about him in 2000 called Condo Painting.
Condo’s portraits have appeared in the Guggenheim, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and virtually every other super renowned museum out there. But after looking at his pieces, it’s easy to see why. He typically draws inspiration from Greek mythology, European history portraits, and American caricature. He then throws all of those influences into a bizarre, twisted, and often sexually perverse cubist blender.
Kanye couldn’t have commissioned a better or more reputable artist for his “masterpiece.” The dude’s even guest lectured at Harvard. Looks like game really does recognise game.”
Merci Lifelounge.
Couldn’t have said it better, nor will I even attempt to bother but… what a note to end on! George Condo gee-gee-genuis for my last post of pre-Christmas 2010.
So in the name of ‘Ye, (my hero of 2010), have a beautiful, dark, twisted Christmas everyone!
